The Girl Next Door (2004)

An intellectual high school student, Matthew (Emile Hirsch), who always follow rules docilely, wishes to attain something outrageous before he enters the Georgetown University. Things are started to happen when a beautiful girl, Danielle (Elisha Cuthbert), moves in next door and they fall in love with each other. Shortly, he find out her former career which she was a porn star. He is then obturated by the vexation until he discovers that he has to take risk for girl he loves. However, she is convinced to return to her previous job and he is going to save her.

It reveals the true friendship, when one is in trouble, the another will always be there to help out. A sincere affection will never die or to be torn apart easily.
A great comedy to watch.

National Treasure 2 - Book of Secrets

Another movie from Jon Turteltaub which was released on 21st December 2007.

A treasure hunter, Ben (Nicholas Cage) grasps all the clues he got and continually spies on them in order to wash off the libel involving his great-grandfather who was alleged to play a part in Abraham Lincoln's murder.

Overall, the movie is quite nice as it poses a sense of humour all the time.
The part when the president of United States was being kidnapped is just (dot)(dot)(dot)... LOL!
I would rate it 3 out of 5.

Wild Things : Diamonds in the Rough (2005)

Runtime: 87 minutes

Also known as 'Wild Things 3', this movie is a sequel to WT1 and WT2. I have not seen the earlier versions but the sexual content in the earlier versions seems to be stronger. As a first time viewer, I think the main attraction of this movie could have been the labels put on it - strong sexual content, lesbianism, nudity, et cetera. However, the storyline goes on quite well although I think they are oh-so-fictitious and you would not know the truth until you watch the movie until the end.

Marie Clifton (Laine) and Elena Sandoval (Sandra McCoy) are two high school teenagers trying to con Marie's stepfather, Jay Clifton (Brad Johnson) out of two priceless diamonds which were said to have belonged to Marie's mother. The two girls worked with Dr. Chad Johnson (Ron Melendez) to make up a rape case involving Elena and Jay. Two detectives, Michael Morrison (Linden Ashby) and Kristin Richards (Dina Meyer) were hot on their heels at solving the case.
But as I have mentioned earlier, you would not know the truth until you watch the whole movie so expect the unexpected.

Cruel Intentions (1999)

Running time: 95 minutes

The centralizes on two spoiled, rich teens-Kathryn (Gellar) and Sebastian (Phillippe). Kathryn and Sebastian are stepsiblings who bet a game of deceit and betrayal. Sebastian was to deflower the innocent Cecile (Blair) and Annette (Witherspoon), who wrote to the 'Seventeen' magazine saying that she will remain a virgin until she gets married. As a reward, Kathryn offered Sebastian a pleasurable night if he succeed at the tasks since Kathryn thinks that they are impossible to be accomplished. During his conquest for Annette, Sebastian found himself falling in love with Annette at the same time.

Final verdict: No popcorns needed to keep you glued to the screen. Another movie about rich, spoilt brats (in the case of Sebastian) trying to sleep with as many girls as possible and (Kathryn) ruining people's lives.

Movie: Mockingbird Don't Sing (2002)

Run time: 98 minutes

This movie is based on actual events surrounding a girl named Genie. Fictitious names were used instead of the actual names of the people involved in the events.

Katie Standon (Tarra Steele) was kept locked in a closet by her parents. She was confined to a chair, provided only with diapers, a pail and some toys. Katie was never taught to speak and she was taken care of her father when her mother's eyesight become worse as she has cataracts. Katie's father had not only abused her physically but emotionally as well. She was tormented until she was discovered fourteen years later, in November 1970.

It seems like the whole idea of abusing Katie stemmed from her father, as a way of remembering her deceased grandmother. However, the story focused on how Katie learn to talk and reintegrate into the society, although her attempts were often interrupted by the intrusive Dr. Judy Bingham (Sean Young) and other researchers interested in her, who was labelled as a 'wild child'.

On the other hand, a social worker, Sandra, has endlessly tried to help Katie to assimilate into the society as a young lady. Linguistically, the 'Critical Stage Hypothesis', which says a child will face many difficulties learning a new language after the critical stage period is over was proved wrong.

Final judgment: A very good movie, especially for those interested in child language development. I cannot believe that such cruel torment could occur in the past.
